Dharshini is an  Honorary Fellow of Downing College, Cambridge. She is the author of “The Almighty Dollar” (2018), the bestselling guide to the global economy, which features on school and college curricula, and Environomics (2024). 

After reading Economics at Downing, Dharshini worked for Oxford Economics and the Government Economic Service. She was then  appointed HSBC Investment Bank’s Senior UK Economist. There, her paper on the workings on the labour market led to the government adopting a different official measure of unemployment.  

Dharshini swapped the trading floor for the BBC, to cover economics and present financial programmes in London, and then New York, from where she led analysis of the Great Financial Crisis   

Dharshini went on to present flagship business and political programmes for Sky News. She also sat on the consumer finance board of the financial regulator, the FCA. 

She rejoined the BBC in 2018, and was subsequently appointed Chief Economics Correspondent. She has led agenda-setting coverage on the impacts of Covid, the Ukraine War and changes  of government in the U.K. and US,  holding policymakers to account and  providing analysis across television and radio news and online.  

Dharshini also presents programmes for Radio 4 News and Current Affairs programmes.  Her Analysis documentary for Radio 4 “Is Britain the Sick Man of Europe?”  won the prestigious Wincott Prize -  aka the Oscars of financial journalism - with the programme hailed by the judges as “the BBC at its best”.
