Turin - royal capital of elegance and industry
Turin - royal capital of elegance and industry
In the 20th century, Turin became known as the ‘Detroit of Italy’. But the old royal capital was never a mere production hub; its industrial might has always been intertwined with its political past, from its days as the capital of the Duchy of Savoy to its rise as a key player in the Kingdom of Italy.
In the late 16th century, the House of Savoy - inspired by their friends and foes - rebuilt Turin as one of the most elegant and intellectual capitals in Europe. Situated geographically and politically at a crossroads between the major European powers, the Savoy often tipped the balance in numerous conflicts involving France, Spain, and the Holy Roman Empire.
Nirvana's talk will focus on Turin’s cultural highlights – a truly majestic and unique architecture - and its story of historical determination, from the Savoys to FIAT.
