The Cambridge Society of Dorset reached its 40th anniversary this year! We cordially invite you to join us in celebration at our main event of the year in the historic surroundings of Bryanston School, just outside Blandford Forum.

We will have a short (15 minutes) AGM followed by an address by Dr Gordon Plant on Abnormal Vision and the Visual Arts: Fact and Fancy. After an aperitif we will enjoy a 3-course lunch (with wine) prepared to the very high standards of Bryanston’s kitchens and served in the splendour of one of the staterooms of Bryanston House.

We are privileged to be addressed by such an expert as Dr Plant. Currently Hon Assoc Professor at UCL, he was Consultant Neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, St Thomas’ and the Moorfields Eye Hospital until 2021. He graduated from Downing College, followed a distinguished career in the neurology of vision at the three institutions and is a fellow of the Royal Colleges of both Physicians and Ophthalmologists. He continues to be a great champion of furthering research and training in his field. He has developed a particular interest in the effects of visualisation disorders on the great painters, which is the main topic of his address. For relaxation he enjoys a wide range of music.

Lunch at Bryanston is always a splendid affair, immaculately presented in historic surroundings. This year the main course will be Beef Wellington, with a vegetarian alternative and a choice of starters and sweets. The full menu is attached to the booking form.

Location information:

On arrival at Bryanston please follow signs to the car park and further signs to Coade Hall. This is up a ramp (max 15 degrees, 35 metres) and then flat (50 metres) to the foyer.

There is also access to the lower part of Coade Hall directly from the car park. From Coade Hall to the old school is a mainly flat walk on gravel paths of around 300 metres. Those with mobility issues should park in the main car park to start with, and after the presentation, return to their cars and drive to the main school entrance where limited car parking for blue badge holders will be available. If you require one of these spaces, or need assistance up the ramp, please let us know on your booking form.
