Lord Owen, originally a doctor specialising in neurology and psychiatry, transitioned to politics, serving as Navy Minister, Health Minister, and Foreign Secretary in Labour Governments. An MP for Plymouth from 1966-92, he co-founded the Social Democratic Party in 1981 and led it for several years. Now an independent Social Democrat in the House of Lords, he served as the EU peace negotiator in Yugoslavia from 1992-95. A lifelong committed European, he opposed the EU's move toward federalism, advocating for Brexit. Lord Owen has authored several books, including "In Sickness and In Power," "British Foreign Policy After Brexit," "Hubris: The Road to Trump," and "Riddle, Mystery and Enigma: Two Hundred Years of British-Russian Relations.”
