Photosynthesis to the rescue
Photosynthesis to the rescue
Enjoy a glass of fizz and nibbles in our Cybercafé as Dr Jenny Zhang and her team show you how they are developing ways to re-wire living photosynthetic cells.
Their aim is to create new technologies that can sustainably generate and store renewable energy.
Speaker
Dr Jenny Zhang
Jenny completed her PhD in bioinorganic chemistry at the University of Sydney, Australia, with a brief stint at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. As a Marie Curie Incoming International Fellow at the University of Cambridge she explored how biocatalysts can be exploited to generate solar fuels, in an emerging field known as semi-artificial photosynthesis. Here in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, Jenny has continued and expanded this research, and in November 2023 was awarded a prestigious European Research Council Consolidator Grant to develop an exciting new approach for accelerating synergistic interactions between biological and non-biological materials. She has recently been appointed Assistant Professor in Materials Chemistry in a post jointly funded by Newnham College.
