Role: Freshers' event volunteer
We're recruiting volunteers to help at this summer's welcome events for new students, which are hosted by Cambridge and Oxbridge Alumni Groups.
Who can volunteer for this role?
- This role is open to current students and new alumni (maximum three years out)
What's involved?
- Introducing yourself at the start of the event
- Pro-actively mingling with attendees, sharing your experiences of university and answering questions
- Participating in an informal question-and-answer session
- Your help with setting up, packing away and registering attendees might also be appreciated
Why volunteer?
- You'll make a direct and considerable difference to new starters, helping them feel reassured and better-prepared for university
- You'll meet students and alumni from your area
- Some of our volunteers attendended one of these events when they started university and are motivated to give back by through volunteering
Location
- Freshers' events take place around the world, both in-person and online
- We recommend volunteering at an event in your own home town or country, if there is one
Time involvement
- Attendance at one or more freshers' events in August and/or September 2022
- Most events are about two-hours long and take place in the afternoon or evening
Expenses
- Most event organisers are able to reimburse reasonable volunteer expenses, such as for local travel
- Free refreshments are usually provided
Register your interest
- Please complete the short online form to add yourself to the list of potential volunteers
- We'll contact you if there's an event confirmed in your area, at which point you can accept or decline the booking
- If you accept the booking, we'll share your name, College, course, year of matriculation and email address with the event organiser, who is a former Cambridge student. By accepting the booking, you consent to us sharing this information with the organiser
- The organiser will contact you by email to confirm what's involved and answer your questions
- If you do not hear from us, it's because there isn't an event in your area
